Despite that conundrum, The Great Edgar Hunt is a good, if not very original, platformer in its own right, offering up some funny writing and interesting environments to explore.
Those of us who grew up enjoying the antics of the Animaniacs are all in college or older, while the adolescent age group this game seems to cater to probably wouldn't recognize the characters at all. Animaniacs: The Great Edgar Hunt is very kid-friendly, with only mild cartoon violence, so it makes you wonder who exactly the game is aimed at. But that hasn't stopped Warthog and Ignition Entertainment from bringing out a new platform game based on the smart-alecky Warner brothers (and sister). There are also many movie parodies, and it uses the opportunity to riff on a handful of video games.It's been about seven years since the Animaniacs animated series was canceled, and at least a few years since it disappeared even from syndication. The game also features the original cast of the show reprising their roles. Each of their brief games contains another unsuccessful attempt at global dominance. In addition, there are bonus mini-games with Pinky and The Brain as guests. Each globe also has 300 collectibles players receive one Edgar after 150 collectibles and another at 300 collectibles. Players advance through the game by collecting Edgar awards and unlocking new Warner Movie Lots locations. Dot, for example, may limbo under low walls, Wakko in soft dirt, and Yakko under weak walls. Each character has unique abilities that can be acquired as the player progresses through the game. Assist the Warners in reclaiming the Edgars! The player controls Yakko, Wakko, and Dot in Animaniacs: The Great Edgar Hunt, a 3D platformer. Deville is the perpetrator, threatening to melt down the Edgars unless he gets a ten-picture deal from Warner Bros.! Deville arrives in his airship but crashes into the Water Tower, dispersing the Edgars around the several movie lots while also rescuing Yakko, Wakko, and Dot. Hollywood is outraged because the film Edgar Awards has been stolen! C.C.
